One Less Straw
Best thing about founding The Plastic Project, apart from trying to help save this planet, is finding out about the inspirational people who are doing it as well. Take these two inspirational young guys: 14-year-old Olivia and her 15-year-old brother Carter, from the US who have founded and got off the ground One Less Straw. Their campaign material is eye opening to say the very least and illustrates just how vast the problem is –
“Did you know that in America, we are using an estimated 500,000,000 plastic straws every single day? That is like 1.6 straws for every man, woman and child living in this country every single day. If you were to take an entire day’s worth of plastic straws we use in one day, it would fill up over 127 school buses. That is like over 46,400 school buses full of one-time use plastic straws that are ending up in our landfills and waterways. Sick isn’t it?”
That is a mind blowing amount of straws being used everyday, used once then thrown away, now multiply that globally and we are producing a ridiculous amount of waste for essentially nothing more than a few sips on a drink.
